Taking a first aid kit with you when you go on vacation is as important as making sure you have all the correct immunizations. If you do not speak the language of the country you are visiting, getting a much needed bandage or aspirin will be difficult.
You do not have to take a lot. After all, you would much rather pack an extra pair of shorts than a big first aid kit. The basics though will come in handy. Take a pair of tweezers, small bottle of eye wash, antiseptic cream, aspirin, butterfly band aids, gauze, bandage, and scissors - unless you only have hand luggage in which case leave out the scissors.
Leave out band aids. If an injury is small enough it only needs a band aid, then you can probably do without. You can get butterfly band aids from your pharmacy. Unlike ordinary band aids, butterfly band aids can be used in place of stitches to hold a cut or wound together.
And do not forget to buy travel insurance.
