Most of us think that we only need medical insurance when we are going on a big trip. The fact is, we need to consider medical preparedness as a necessary part of any trip we are taking. It is just as important to be medically prepared for trips we take at home.
If anyone in the travel party takes prescription medication, write down what the medication is, whom the prescribing doctor is, and also, which pharmacy normally fills out the prescription. Also take note of the contact numbers for your health plan provider. If you forget your medication it will be a lot easier to get an emergency refill if you have this information with you.
Before your trip, check the date of your next refill. If you will need another refill within a couple of days of your return, ask your doctor to provide you with a refill before you leave. Passengers have been stranded all over the world for over a week due to unforeseen circumstances. Do not let lack of medication make your delay even more of a nightmare.
