Yellow Fever Travel Vaccination

Yellow Fever Travel Vaccination

Yellow Fever travel vaccination requirements can cause a lot of confusion for Africa travelers. A recent outbreak of the disease in Uganda caused speculation that the vaccination start to be required to enter Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, and the embassies in the latter two countries did confirm that everyone does need to be vaccinated in order to enter, regardless of where they are coming from.

Kenya however said that it was not mandatory in that country, if you are coming from a country where the disease is not endemic. In Tanzania's Kilimanjaro International Airport there was a doctor on hand to vaccinate passengers who could not prove they'd had the shot, and they had to pay $50 on the spot. So if there is any question of an entry requirement, it is advisable to get the yellow fever shot in advance. Don't rely on embassy website info as it could be outdated, always call and speak with someone instead.
